Why do I need Creatine Monohydrate?

If you train with weights, creatine is the one supplement worth starting with. It increases physical performance in short bursts of high-intensity exercise, which is exactly what a heavy set or a sprint is.

You do get a little from red meat and fish, but getting 5g a day from food would mean eating around a kilo of beef. One scoop does the same job for about 17p.

how it works (minus the science)

Your muscles keep a small energy reserve for short, all-out efforts, like a heavy set or a sprint. Think of it like a phone battery. Creatine tops that battery up.

Take 5g every day and, after a few weeks, it's fully charged. That means more in the tank for those hard reps. It builds up over time, so taking it daily matters far more than when you take it.

Is this right for me?

This is for you if you:

  • Lift weights, sprint or do any short, hard training
  • Want a simple, well-researched supplement to start with
  • Are happy to take it every day, training day or not

Give it a miss if you:

  • Are under 18, pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Have a kidney condition (check with your GP first)

You've Got Questions, We've got answers!

What does creatine actually do?

Creatine increases physical performance in successive bursts of short-term, high-intensity exercise, like lifting sets or sprints. The benefit comes from taking at least 3g a day, and each scoop gives you 5g.

How do I take it?

Mix one 5g scoop into 250 to 350ml of water or any drink you like, once a day. It's unflavoured, so it disappears into your protein shake, juice or even your morning coffee.

Do I need to do a loading phase?

No. Taking 5g every day fills your muscles' creatine stores within about three to four weeks. Loading (around 20g a day for a week) gets you there faster, but it's optional and can upset some people's stomachs.

Should I take it on rest days?

Yes. Creatine works by building up in your muscles over time, so daily use matters more than timing. On training days, take it whenever suits you. On rest days, take it with any meal.

Will creatine make me bloated or put on weight?

Some people see the scales go up by a kilo or two in the first few weeks. That's water stored inside your muscles, not fat. Bloating is rare on 5g a day and is more common with loading.

Is creatine suitable for women?

Absolutely. Creatine monohydrate is one of the most researched supplements out there, and it works the same way for women as it does for men. It won't make you bulky.

How long does one tub last?

Each tub has 60 servings, so it's two months of daily use. At £9.99, that's around 17p a day.
